GTP has developed two innovative design
concepts for consideration in the environmental assessment.
This concept provides new express toll
lanes (ETLs), on
I-75/I-575. All tolls will be collected electronically,
without toll booths. The existing lanes will remain free and benefit
from reduced congestion as a result of those choosing to use the new ETLs. Of GTP's two concepts, Concept A has the lowest capital
cost and the least change to the currently planned HOV/BRT project.
This concept adds to Concept A new
truck-only toll lanes on I-75 that are mandatory for all
"through-trucks" with three or more axles. Concept B results in the
greatest relief to traffic congestion, accommodating long-term growth
in the corridor. It also improves traffic safety by separating heavy
trucks from automobile traffic.
